ROOTS OF INTENTION AND DESIRE
We are celebrating the art of Janet Taylor Pickett with this special exhibition of recent works, created since her relocation to Los Angeles. As well as works from her private collection.
Janet says of where she is in her creative career; “I am filled with the pluralism of my existence – I have a bottle tree in my backyard, and still have the light from Provence through my windows. What a journey this life continues to be for me.”
At the core of Janet’s art practice is an ongoing exploration of personal identity. Her visual language is a complex layering and intermingling of symbol and metaphor, nature and memory. She speaks to the challenge of being an African American, a woman, and an artist. Yet the work is not resistance, or reaction to her experience, but a transformative act of social engagement.
With works dating from 2003 up to the present, Roots of Intention and Desire, beautifully illustrates this singular artist’s ability to hold steady to her center, while continuing to explore, experiment, and interpret the world around her.
